Girls Ride Out – July Ride Report

Well today was our monthly GRO Ride and boy what a day it turned out to be.  Firstly I would like to thank everyone that ventured out into the cold this morning.  I also want to thank you for your patience, your laughter and your company in what turned out to be a very eventful but a fun day.

I started off from Campbelltown at a chilly 3º meeting up with three other riders at Prestons.  On the way there, I discovered I'd left my mobile at home, bugger, you never realise how much you miss it till you don't have it.  With not enough time to turn around and go back home and get it, we continued on arriving at McDonalds right on 9.00am.

Riders started arriving and at about 9.25, there didn't seem to be too many to start the ride, but there was a reason for this too, the others were at a different Maccas.  It turns out that the Maccas for the meeting point should have been classified as McGraths Hill or Mulgrave and not Rouse Hill.  We received a phone call from Mark who was at the other Maccas via hubby who luckily I had phoned to tell to answer my mobile and was able to tell Mark where we were and also ring the phone I had contacted him on to let us know they were on there way.

Boy, what a start to the ride, and yep, you guessed it, it gets even better.

We grouped together for the obligatory chat at the beginning of the ride.  Unfortunately, not a lot had actually done the ride to Wisemans Ferry before and were unfamiliar with the area, so we opted out of the usual corner markers and decided to start with keeping the next rider in our sites.  We had the ride route and although it sounded easy enough (probably too easy), it didn't end up that way.

Me, I was tail end Charlene, and we had an honorary ride leader, who we were grateful had accepted this role.  We all started off with me coming up the rear.  Reaching Kurmond Road, there was a rider pulled over to the left which meant great, things are working and so we followed. Moseying along at the rear of the pack I followed along and thought to myself, this isn't the way we were supposed to go.  Alas, we had gone a different way.  Continuing on, or for me, following on, we ended up on the right road towards Sackville only to have someone do a left hand turn when they wern't supposed to.  I pulled over and the person in front chased him.  I waited at the end of West Portland Road and Sackville Road.  I was watching for them tio come back when I saw a rider coming, then another one.  Low and behold, it was the original group.  I had managed to get myself in front of the original group which was minus something, the honorary ride leader rider and some of his entourage (no names mentioned).

The main body of the group, waited at the Sackville Ferry for them to arrive, but they didn't turn up.  They had apparently gone via Portland and were waiting for us at the wrong ferry.  Once we established contact with them via mobile, we headed on our way, and arranged with them to meet up with us at Wisemans.  They arrived about 35 minutes after we got there.

There was much laughter about the whole thing, and I am so glad that everyone had such a great sense of humour.  I count myself lucky that hubby wasn't on the ride, as he would have blown his top (he's not known for liking anything less than well organised or structured - and for those who know him, will completely understand).

Whilst we were having lunch and listening to the live music, our Northern Stars turned up.  It was great to see and catch up with them and they will be pleased to know that the singer wasn't a patch on our Deb.

Lucky for me, of all our groups that got separated, we didn't actually lose anyone.  We all managed to get to Wisemans Ferry for a great lunch with some great company.

I also wanted to let you guys know, that the next ride date will be changing.  It will not be on the first Sunday but the second Sunday of August.  Our GRO Racers will be racing on that day and changing the day will allow them to join us for the monthly ride and for some of us to brave the cold at Wakefield park to support them as well.

Take Care everyone, and thank you so much for today.
