How do I get my
Provisional Rider's Licence?
You must have held your learner
rider licence for a minimum of three months before you are
eligible to attend the pre provisional course. You can book the
course any time after gaining your learner rider licence.
Pre-provisional training
course
The pre-provisional course is six hours of
training followed by the Motorcycle Operator Skill Test (MOST).
Testing usually takes about one hour, depending on the number of
tests to be conducted. You must provide the motorcycle and
protective clothing to undertake the course and motorcycle
riding test.
Your learner rider licence is only valid for
twelve months. If you have not passed the pre-provisional course
within that time, your learner licence will expire and you will
need to attend the pre-learner course again.
After The Course
After passing the course, you will be
issued with a pre provisional certificate of competence which is
valid for three months. Failure to obtain a provisional P1
licence within the three months of being issued the certificate
will mean you will need to re-attend all training.
A P1 rider licence is issued for 18 months.
You must hold a P1 rider licence for a minimum total period of
12 months before being eligible to progress to a P2 rider
licence.
You can upgrade to a provisional P2 rider
licence after 12 months. The provisional P2 licence is
valid for 30 months. To upgrade to an unrestricted motorcycle
rider licence, go to any motor registry after having held a
provisional P2 licence for 24 months.

Hints/Tips for Attending The Course
Arrival
times
Plan to arrive 15
minutes before the scheduled course start time. Applicants who
arrive after the course has started WILL NOT be allowed to join
the course.
Courses must start
on time. To include those who arrive late would require the
instructor to restart the course, thereby disrupting and
inconveniencing other participants.
Applicants who
arrive late forfeit their course fees and will be required to
repay and re-book before re-attending training.
