Northern Stars Ride Report Well, what a difference the new venue for brekky made. The GROovers were all very happy with the quality of the food and service and above all the "Latte Committee" all gave the coffee a resounding thumbs up!!! There was quite a turn up for a bitterly cold winter morn - especially from those who weren't even riding and braved the cold. Thanks to Alison, David, Tania and Paula for getting out of bed just to come and sit and chat. That's why we love you so.
You know it's always going to be a great day when the coffee fiends are happy - and yesterday was no exception. As we set off from Warners Bay there was of course Phillipa and his stand-in pillion Tracey (Deb's bud from the 'big smoke') in the lead, Julie (not every day's Sunday now), Deb (I have to put my glassed on to find it), Riccarla ( on her hot new Hyosung 650 - love the colour by the way), Mate of Riccarla (sorry we weren't introduced), Meggsy (learner champion), Sam (who'll be too busy to read this in her new role as manager), Sue (just jazzed up the other leg of her colourful duds), Young man on black Hyosung (sorry I'm a dud with names today) and Moi (bringing up the rear?!?!?!?!?). Oh, and not to forget Anne following in her car, who must have been cacking herself at us riding in the freezing cold, while she mosied along in her nice warm tin top.
From Warners we headed off
round through Belmont and down the Pacific Hwy (where we
got just a wee bit of rain) and down the Freeway where we
re-grouped at the twin servo. Continuing on down the F3
we took the Ourimbah turn off, and from there I do
not have the foggiest idea where we went, other than down
McDonalds Rd (that's why I was tail-end Charlie!). Uncle
Phil (Phillipa for the uninitiated) lead us through a
series of nice little twisties, eventually pulling up at the
most amazing look-out at Killcare Heights. Amazing thing
about this look out for most of us was the view. For Deb
it was the cute man in
Once we got to the General Store, the ever-happy Mikey was there to greet us along with the group of tables he had reserved for us. Lunch was equally as pleasant as breakfast with service that surpassed most establishments I have eaten in, for quite some time (sorry, Maccas LOL). The service was prompt (apart from two minor mishaps) the food was awesome, the view unsurpassed and above all the company was average. Heheheh. Just kidding, as always the friendship and support this group is synonymous for was plentiful.
After peeling ourselves off the seat from lunch we headed back up the scary hill (freaked me out!) and turned left to head over the bridge. Jules and I took a little detour that saw us checking out how the 'other half' live on St Hubberts Island and then on to our own sight seeing tour of the Central Coast when Uncle Phil came to the rescue (okay - we got lost!!). After re-grouping in the middle of somewhere we again headed god-knows-where through Gosford and eventually on to Freeo. I have to say that seeing that servo coming on the horizon was like seeing an oasis in the desert. Having not ridden much lately, I have lost my 'ride fitness' which I had even forgotten I had!
As always the ride was awesome, the company outstanding and the coffee hot and tasty. For me, the day really affirmed what Girls Ride Out is all about. We had an experienced rider, mixed with intermediate riders and brand new ones. Old friends coming together to welcome new ones. Friends coming along to have breakfast and lunch with us, even though they were not joining us for the ride. After the suggestion that the group may have lost focus on the bigger picture of fostering new riders and developing new friendships, I think after yesterday, that issue can safely be put to rest.
Thank you all for a fantastic day and well done newbies; may it be the beginning of a beautiful new series of friendships.
Cheers, Cath
