Ride Guidelines
For convenience and safety, Girls Ride
Out suggest the following common sense guidelines on our rides to make the
day safe and enjoyable for everyone:
-
Turn up at the relevant meeting
point on time!
-
Have a full tank of fuel when you
arrive at the meeting point!
-
Your motorcycle must be registered
to ride on the road and be roadworthy!
-
Don't overtake the lead bike
unless you have advised the ride leaders and know where you are going.
-
Don't turn at an intersection
until you can see the rider behind you indicate that they have seen the
turning point (unless there is a marshal clearly marking the turning
point). Failure to do this is very
inconsiderate and will make following riders anxious about getting lost.
-
Do not ride erratically, or in an
irresponsible manner. If you want to ride that way, find another ride
group!!
-
Do not ride too close to the rider
in front of you. Not everybody is as experienced or confident as you.
-
Ride at your own pace. The rides
are fun social events, not races. The back marker will not overtake you.
-
If you wish to leave the ride at
any time tell one of the marshals, preferably at a stop before you wish
to leave.
-
Don't be scared to let us know if
you are unhappy or uncomfortable about any aspect of the ride, after all
we
are trying to make this about YOU the rider.
Always remember you are
responsible for your own safety.
On GRO rides we supply a destination and route. Marshals (leader, tail
charlie and corner markers if necessary) are decided on the day for the sole
purpose of giving directions along the route (ie avoiding people getting
lost). It has been common practice that mini groups form for the ride home
depending on direction of travel.
We ask that non-financial members sign
our indemnity form on arrival at the meeting point. Rides generally include
stopping for a long lunch break, usually an hour or so (after all we did say
these were social events!!) There may also be two meeting points, depending
on where we are going.
Girls Ride Out members are a social
group of riders who stay in touch primarily through email. We schedule
monthly ride days, weekend rides away, and have an active online chat group.
GRO is open to all women, friends and family, who want to get together to
enjoy safe riding, social outings and share experiences including L & P
riders.
Our rides are social events. So don't be concerned that you will not be able
to keep up. We have all sorts of bikes, all sorts of riders (with widely
different experience) and there are usually at least two groups - fast &
slow.
Some other GRO riding hints:
Remember you are riding in a group,
there will usually be riders behind you and possibly overtaking you.
Indicate AND look every time you change lanes or turn and give other riders
space to manoeuvre.
Ride at your own pace. The rides are
fun social events, not races. The back marker will not overtake you.
If you are concerned that you may be
lost (can not see the rider in front), slow down and/or pull over somewhere
safe, and wait for others to catch up. The back marker will not overtake
you.
When behind the rider in front (unless
there is a good reason - ie cars in adjacent lanes/other safety issues) ride
in a staggered formation. You will have a better line of sight up the road
and more room in case the bike in front brakes suddenly.
If a rider (or other vehicle) in front
of you is riding in a manner that you feel is unsafe or irritating, slow
down and give yourself more room.
If a rider (or other vehicle) behind
you is riding in a manner that is intimidating or irritating, slow down when
it is safe for them overtake you and they probably will.
If you are not having fun then let
somebody know - it's the whole point of doing a group ride.
